The protective function of the skin of a newborn or infant is an immature function, it occurs because of thin epidermis and dermis, immature basal membrane, a little amount of fibrous structures and a good developing of blood vessels network. The bactericidal function is an immature function, it is due to PH of the newborn skin (6.1-6.7) in an Adult is acidic (4.2-5.6). This pH medium is favorable for developing microbes.
The thermoregulation is immature function as the result of high emission of heat process and immature heat production. The high emission heat processes occur because of a thin skin, a later beginning of sweat glands functioning, a well developed superficial vessel network, and the vessels are in physiological vasodilatation. Muscles of the hair bulbs are poorly developed, so gooseflesh does not appear.
The respiratory function is well developed. It helps immature lungs to perform the respiratory function. The intensity of the respiratory function is more intensive by 8 times in a newborn than in an adult. Well developed respiratory functions are caused by puffy and thin skin, a well developed superficial vessel network, physiological vasodilatation of vessels. The deposition function is well developed. The skin is the depot of blood and water.
The receptor function is well developed. There are a lot of nerves in the skin, so the skin is a peripheral analyzer that grasps endo- and exogenous stimuli. The skin excretes some products of metabolism of fat and carbohydrates and different medicaments. The excretion function of the skin begins with the beginning of functioning sweat and sebaceous glands (3-4 months).
The resorption is well developed. It is caused by puffy and thin skin, well developed superficial vessel network, a great number of sebaceous glands and hair follicles. But resoption depends on the chemical structure of the substance; lipo-soluble substances are well absorbed, water-soluble substances are non-absorbtive.
The buffer function is poorly developed, because in newborns and young children pH of the skin is nearly neutral (pH 6.1-6.7) therefore the skin can’t neutralize acids and alkaline.
The skin synthesizes vitamin D and other biologically active substances. The skin secretes keratin, squalen, calcium and phosphorus. In a newborn, the secretion of keratin and squalen is decreased; the secretion of calcium and phosphorus is increased. The metabolic function is well developed, therefore newborns and young children have a high regeneration of the epidermis and dermis.
As simple as the skin of a newborn or infant may seem, it is complicated and very active functionally.

Baby food is really not complicated. Basically you only need one or two fruits or vegetables. When you are cooking dinner, boil up a few extra carrots. When they are cooled, use one of those Braun hand blenders (they cost about $20) and blend up those five or ten carrots with some of the water that they were boiled in. THERE! You’ve just made baby food. And it took you about 45 seconds. And, you know those carrots are just carrots.

Babies usually triple their weight during their first year. If they are what they eat, this is the most important time to give them the best. You may not be able to give your child fresh, homemade foods every day, but here are the benefits for you and your child when you do make the effort.

Everyone worries about proper nutrition for growing babies. Iron, calcium, and vitamin D – all of these things are legitimate concerns in children’s nutrition. However, fortified and processed foods aren’t necessarily better than whole foods. Homemade baby food, created from fresh ingredients, offers your child superior nutrition as well as encourages a taste for simple, unprocessed foods – a taste that will possibly prevent obesity-related problems later in life. It’s not necessary to offer commercial baby foods in order to have a healthy child.

The most striking advantage of baby food mills, apart from preparing home-made food is its extreme portability. You can literally carry a food mill with you while traveling to a picnic spot or just camping with your baby. As, they do not require any battery or electricity to operate, you can carry these food mills in your carry bags while traveling with your child. They are a perfect recourse for travelers hitting estranged lands where locating a grocery store selling baby food become a rarity. You can stock food and even carry them on cruise and feed your baby with nutrient rich food for months.

One of the best things about making homemade baby food is that the transition from “Stage 1″ thin purees, to more thick and textured foods is often easier and more quickly tolerated. With homemade baby food, your baby is exposed to a greater variety of tastes and textures making the transition to table foods less stressful. This is due to the fact that your homemade baby food has more texture and thickness to begin with. Homemade baby food that is more textured is more than the jarred baby food.

After cooking the food you will need to process it in either a blender or food processor of some sort. The best thing to use for the job is an actual baby food grinder or baby food processor. They are easy to work with and perform the task best. The small size of most versions makes them very portable and they can be used while you are on the go.

Using the tool of your choice, grind the food until it reaches a consistency appropriate for your baby’s stage of development. Take your baby food grinder and blend your fruits and vegetables (and meat if your baby is old enough) until it is your desired consistency.

Babyshowers have their origin in ancient time. Like other things, the way and manner in which they are planned and celebrated have changed over time. Here are somethings that you should bear in mind when planning a babyshower today.

1. Know the culture of the would be parents.
Because babyshowers are steeped in tradition and customs, it is important to have a good idea of what is culturally acceptable by the would be parents and what is not. People do not necessarily throw away their culture because they live in modern times. Knowing the cultural limitations, makes the celebration more memorable and worthwile.

2. Know the needs of the parents to be
It is pointless giving gifts that recepients can not use. Would be parents need things for the new baby and are probably stretched to their limits. It would be only worth their while if the gifts they get help to alleviate this burden. Where the gender of the baby is known in advance, give gifts that are gender appropriate.

3. Know the best time to schedule your shower
As the hostess, it behooves you to know when to schedule the babyshower for maximum benefit and impact. Do not schedule your shower too early or too late. Expecting couples need all the financial help they can get. Scheduling a shower too late may mean that the couple had already bought all the things they need for the baby.

4. Know the physical needs of the expecting mother
Pregnancy puts enormous physical challenges and demand on the expecting mother, especially if it is their first pregnancy. It is a good idea to locate the shower closer to home to avoid putting additional strain on an already over challenged mother to be.

5. Know who is on your guest list
The success and failure of a babyshower to a certain extent depends on the attendace. How responsive is your list. Did you consult the couple when compiling your guest list. Remember this is their babyshower not your. You are only a vessel in the actualization of this event.

6.  Know your refreshment plan
Preparing for and feeding even the smallest group of poeple can quickly turn into a nightmare if no adequate plans are made for that. Set up a plan about what to serve and how to serve it and work your plan. Make room for emergencies that may arise.

7. Know your plan for entertainment
What is your plan for entertainment? Do you have games that your guests can play? Board games and puzzles make for easy and entertaining games that your guests can play. You might want to organize some kind of poetry reading, depending on the mix of your guests. You can have guests come with their own poems written for the occassion to share with others.

In recent year we have seen an increase in the susceptibility of allergies. Baby food allergies are of particular concern as the source may be difficult to detect.

Baby food allergies are as common as adult food allergies.

If your baby appears distressed for no apparent reason or has unexplained areas of itchiness to the skin, then perhaps he or she has a baby food allergy.

What is an Allergy?

An allergy can be defined as an intolerance to a particular substance when touched, inhaled, injected or ingested.

When our body is exposed to a substance that causes an allergic reaction the response may be nasal or respiratory congestion, itchy or runny nose, watery eyes, diarrhea, or itchy rashes anywhere on the body.

Baby Food Allergies – Can My Allergies be Passed on to my Baby?

If you tend to have an allergic reaction then your baby may have a tendency to be allergic also.

However you and your baby may not share the same food allergies or be allergic to the same substances.

You may have asthma, while your child may develop hay fever.

Baby Food Allergies – How to detect them

It can sometimes be difficult detecting the cause of baby food allergies. If you think your infant has a baby food allergy, eliminating the following products from their diet may help.

* Milk and dairy products

* Eggs

* Nuts

* Shellfish

* Citrus Fruits

Once you have eliminated each of these food groups from your baby’s diet, you can begin to reintroduce them gradually one by one.

Wait a few days before the introduction of an additional food group and do not mix food groups.

If your baby has a baby food allergy you be able to detect it by monitoring his or her reaction to the introduction of these individual food groups.

Baby Food Allergies – Can they be prevented?

Breastfeeding your baby for the first six months of his or her life helps to reduce the incidence of allergies earlier on in life.

Try to avoid giving your baby pre-prepared foods that contain additives, or tinned or packaged foods.

Baby Food Allergies – When are they Most Likely to Occur?

Baby food allergies can occur at any time. Many babies are allergic to, or have an intolerance to cows milk and your baby may develop an allergy to other milk or wheat products, shellfish, nuts or citrus fruits.

If your baby has an allergic reaction after eating a particular food, you should see the signs within an hour.

Baby Food Allergy – Signs to Look For

The symptoms of a baby food allergy could include swelling or itchiness of the lips or tongue, wheezing or a skin rash.

Some babies may develop an intolerance to particular food groups.

If your baby has a food intolerance, symptoms might include diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, colic or wind.

Treating Baby Food Allergies

As long as you can find the cause, then the best way to treat a baby food allergy is to refrain from giving your baby that particular food.

If your baby is experiencing related symptoms then the allergy could be pollen related rather than a baby food allergy. Non food substances that could also cause an allergic reaction include pet hairs, tobacco smoke, feather pillows, and perfume or dust mites.

Baby Food Allergies – Healthy Alternatives

If your results indicated that your infant is experiencing baby food allergies, here are some non allergic foods that you can try introducing into their diet.

* Mangoes, apples, grapes

* Barley, oats, rye

* Cauliflower, carrots, sweet potatoes

* Chicken, salmon

If in any doubt you should seek professional help to determine whether it is a baby food allergy or something more serious.

Baby food allergies are quote common and with a little work are fairly easy to detect. Once you have detected the source of your baby’s food allergy, the simplest way to eliminate the symptoms is to remove the cause.

Whether you’re expecting or welcoming your baby into your family right now, choosing the right Baby Names, http://www.cardsshoppe.com/babyname.htm is one of the most difficult choices you have to make. After all, you are picking a name that’s going to be with the baby for a long time. Brainstorming the perfect unique Baby Names, http://www.cards-411.com/baby-names won’t be an easy job. You might want to check out the names meanings or the name origin before making a selection. You might prefer to choose a name from lists or you might want to avoid these names altogether. So let the expert on baby stationery and all things related to welcoming new babies into the home, help give you some great tips.

Getting Inspiration

You can look at web sites and in books full of baby names but you may never find one that really grabs you.

    Related Coverage

     Emma and Jacob – Popular Baby Names

        The names Emma and Jacob are the most popular baby names from 1996 until 2008. These names have proven over the years that they are stable and most loved by parents. Each name has its own origin and comes from our history in a very powerful impact for the users.
Dog Names For Yorkshire Terriers

        The Yorkshire Terrier dominates the world record as the smallest breed of dog. Their masters made excellent choice for the names. We will also explore suggestions or alternative names. Here are the pretty, cute, and good dog names for the breed. How to Remember Names and Faces in 4 Simple Steps

        It’s very frustrating when you run into someone you know, but you can’t remember their name. It’s even more frustrating if they do remember your name. Everyone will agree that being able to remember names is a valuable asset in both the business and social arenas. Things to Know About Baby Gates

        Baby gates are also known as child safety gates, baby safety gates, safety gates, and stair gates. From the name and its synonyms, you could probably already guess what it is. The common word, “gate” would make you think of, well, a gate. And it is precisely that, a gate. Instead, don’t force the name selection process. Just be open to inspiration. One of the staff members remembers choosing the name of her daughter after watching a Disney movie. She just loved the name and said to herself, “When I have a little girl, that’s the name she’s going to get.” Two years later, her daughter was born and she named her Ariel after the Little Mermaid.

Sometime inspiration comes at the last minute. Another one of our staff members remembered the story of how she got her Unusual Baby Names, http://www.express-invitations.com/baby-shower-invitations/ Even though her parents had decided on a completely different name for her long before she was born, her father took one look at the baby and suggested naming her after one of the relatives.
And in that flash of a second their decision had been completely reversed.

Other Avenues

While inspiration works some of the time, you might not want to make snap decisions on names for your children without looking into those baby name meanings. If you want something with international flair, cute Boy Baby Names, http://www.birth-cards.com/Baby_Names might include Bonita which is Spanish for beautiful or Rahima which is Arabic for compassionate. When you’re looking at boy names, you might want to avoid a name like Hayden which comes from German and means heathen. The good news is that some has partnered with a number of web sites that provide easy-to-navigate lists of Boy Baby Names that you can use to narrow your searches and to find the perfect choice for your little one.

Popularity Contest

While looking at lists of meanings names might be somewhat helpful, other parents want to choose unique baby names for their new baby. As a result, they want to find those lists of baby names ranked by popularity. Some can hook you up with those lists, too. And that way you can decide whether they want an Emily or a Jacob, the two most popular names for babies born in 2007 or a Trystan or Zaniya which were ranked 1,000 on the same list for 2007.

Baby’s coming home soon – have you got what you need to take care of the little angel properly? You know you need footie pajamas and onesies, baby towels and bibs – but how many is enough? Having done this five times now – please hold the applause and gasps of shock – I consider myself a bit of an expert on bringing baby home to a prepared household. Most estimates of ‘what you need for baby’ are a wee bit off, in my opinion. Having brought baby home both with and without a handy washing machine, here’s my recommendations for what the well-equipped baby should have at home before he leaves the hospital.

Layette:
Four to six undershirts – the usual recommendation – is actually plenty. You’ll find you use them far less than I did when my oldest was born – pre-Onesies days. Skip the tank tops, as cute as the little midge might look in one just like daddy’s, and go straight for the lap-shoulder t-shirts. They slip on easily, and if you buy them a size or two too big, they’ll be long enough to tuck into sweatpants or bottoms.

Sleeping gowns are underrated. They make a great second layer over onesies, and are cool, loose and comfortable for baby in the summer. If you’re bringing home a summer baby, pick up at least 6 or 8 sleeping gowns. They’re much more comfortable in the heat than stretchies.

You can never have enough onesies. Whether you use them as the bottom layer in winter outfitting or the only thing baby wears in the summer, you’ll go through several a day. If you have a washer at home, you can get by with 6-8. Otherwise, pick up even more. An even dozen isn’t really too many at all.

- Experienced mom’s note: DO use them in the summer. They’ll keep your baby cooler than being in a diaper alone because the cotton absorbs moisture and wicks it away from the skin.

Stretchies are the second handiest baby invention ever. Stick with 100% natural fabrics like stretch cotton or cotton terry for the summer. For the winter, fuzzy jammies should go OVER a pair of onesies rather than against the skin to prevent irritation. 6-8 stretchies should be enough for baby’s first few months.

Pick up one or two sweaters or sweatshirts to keep baby warm in wintertime or on cooler spring/summer evenings.

Four to six pairs each of booties and socks should be plenty. Cotton stretchy ones will be far more comfortable for baby than nylon.

One special take-me-home outfit and a few cute everyday ones.

Supplies:
Half a dozen baby washcloths are a must. They’re far thinner than regular adult washcloths, and less likely to irritate baby’s skin. I never used more than three or four hooded towels, but your mileage may vary. They’re awfully handy for wrapping a baby up from head to toe after a bath, especially in a cool house.

Bibs are another of those things you just can’t have enough of. Drool bibs are fine for tucking under baby’s chin to keep drool and spit-up from staining clothing. You won’t need the bigger bibs for feeding for a while, but pick up one or two to have on hand.

Receiving blankets make great all purpose you-name-its. They’re the perfect size for swaddling baby under a crib blanket, tossing over your shoulder when you burp the munchkin – or for privacy while you nurse him. You’ll use them as towel substitutes, to toss on the floor or on a changing station before you put the baby down, spread them over the stroller or baby seat in the sun – in other words, for just about everything. 6-12 certainly aren’t too many. It’s not like the baby will outgrow them – my toddlers used them as bath towels for years.

Even if you’re using disposable diapers, pick up a dozen cloth diapers. They’re simply the best burp rag ever made.

Two packages of disposable diapers (size newborn and size one) if you’ve decided to use disposables.

If you are a first time parent, having a baby can be both exciting and scary at the same time. Managing a newborn is quite a challenging task. If you have never had any experience handling babies, it can be even scarier. Don’t worry because your instincts will kick in and guide you in your new parenting life. Any questions you have can be answered by the nurse or doctor. Here are some ideas to manage your newborn baby.

Newborn Crying: Do Not Get Overwhelmed
Newborns are known for their crying. After all, this is their main form of communication. If a baby does not cry, it is possible that something is wrong with your baby. He could be deaf, have mental problems, or there could be another major issue that will affect his newborn development. If your baby is crying more than you expected, the first thing to remember is to stay calm. Your baby can feel every tense muscle in your body if you get anxious. There are a number of ways you can stay calm to keep your baby from getting more upset: sing to your newborn talk to your newborn in a soft voice find comforting techniques your newborn enjoys like swinging, bouncing in a bouncy chair, or rocking him in a rocking chair. NEVER SHAKE YOUR NEWBORN BABY. Thousands if babies die each year from sudden shaken syndrome. The brain inside your baby’s head will bang against the inside of the skull and cause brain trauma. If your baby does not die, he could end up in a very critical condition that could paralyze or affect his newborn development in some way.
Newborn Eating: Stages of Eating Development
Mother Nature intended for your newborn to be fed nothing but mother’s breast milk for at least the first 12 months. It is society that has taught us to feed our newborns formula and baby food from their earlier developmental stages. If you plan to give your baby cereal and baby food, doctors suggest you wait until s/he turns six months old so their little bodies have time to adjust. Allergies can develop when you start them earlier on. Never give your baby water. You may be familiar with your baby’s soft spot on the top of his skull. This is a way that doctors can determine dehydration in a newborn by the sunken in look of the outer skin. This does not always mean your baby is dehydrated, making you rush to give him water. If you notice this, simply start the newborn feeding by offering the breast for milk or bottle with formula. Your newborn should be feeding a minimum of 8 times a day and up to 12 times a day, depending on the frequency. If your baby seems very hungry and feeding every hour or more, this is known as cluster feeding. It is very normal to cluster feed and it is part of the newborn development.
Newborn Development: How Your Baby Changes
Your newborn will go through a number of changes during the first year. They may get a little fussy with the newborn crying, but this is all part of the development. Your baby will learn new ways of crying to demand the things he needs, such as, diaper changing, newborn feeding, or attention. Physical changes are a huge part of your newborn development. Pushing up, crawling, walking, and running are things you should expect your newborn to accomplish over the twelve months. Do not underestimate your baby’s abilities because you be in for a shocker to see an ability being done early, like walking at nine months. Always show excitement for your baby and give him positive reactions to encourage him to do more. Paying attention to newborn crying, newborn feeding, and newborn development can help you stay calm to manage your newborn. Your newborn knows what is going on when you are upset, so do everything you can to maintain a peaceful attitude and environment.

Many new parents today are interested in healthy and safe food options for their baby. If you’re new to parenting, you will find that you have few options when it comes to healthy baby foods. Most baby foods you will find on the shelves of supermarkets and grocery stores aren’t really what you can call healthy. Many of them are processed; only very few are completely natural. If you want to feed your baby healthy food, consider organic baby food.

Organic baby food, however, can be rather expensive. And as a new parent, you may be wondering if the price of organic baby food is worth it. When it comes to your baby’s health, are you willing to skimp on his food? Cost aside, here are three good reasons you should choose organic baby food over the others.

Reason #1: Organic Baby Food is Healthier Compared to the Other Baby Food

As mentioned earlier, most of the baby foods available today are hardly what you can call natural. It’s because the companies that manufacturer these baby food include unhealthy ingredients including sugar, additives and preservatives. With organic baby foods, you won’t have to worry about your baby consuming unhealthy ingredients.

While not scientifically proven, organic food, according to many people, including parents, is effective in improving the health of children and even produces positive behavioral changes in children. Then there is the issue of recalls for products — toys, clothing, and food. Many parents are becoming more conscious about the choices they are making, especially when it concerns the health of their children. After all, if a manufacturer of children’s toys can put deadly amounts of lead in the toys they distribute, surely manufacturers of baby food can put unhealthy amounts of chemicals in their products.

Reason #2: You Have Plenty of Options with Organic Baby Food

In terms of flavors, parents won’t have shortage of organic baby food for their little ones. Many parents think that if they feed their children organic baby food, they have limited options. While this is true to some extent, more and more organic baby food flavors are available today because many companies specializing in organic products are seeing an increasing demand for healthy options. The choices may have been limited in the past, but that isn’t the case nowadays.

Earth’s Best Organic is a company that’s well-known for producing organic foods for the entire family. For baby foods that come in jars, Earth’s Best Organic uses organic ingredients like apples, bananas, carrots, pears, peas, and sweet potatoes. The company also makes organic formula, rice cereals, and organic snacks.

Reason #3: You Don’t Always Have to Buy Organic Baby Food…You Can Make Them Yourself!

Compared to traditional baby food, organic baby food is admittedly more expensive. The higher cost is due to the extra steps manufacturers of organic baby food take to ensure that what they make are indeed organic. Companies in the organic food business have to be certified. You can avail of organic baby food at discount prices, and you can use coupons at times, but the price can still be too high for many parents to afford. But it doesn’t mean that you have to give up the whole idea of feeding your baby organic baby food just because you can’t afford the commercially available ones. You can make organic baby food. With the help of the Internet, you can look up many homemade baby food recipes. All you need are organically grown vegetables and fruits.
